Mound Westonka held on late into the fourth quarter, coming away with the win against Providence Academy, thanks to a missed PAT.

The Lions scored with 4:35 left in the game on an 11-yard TD strike from QB Aidan Lampe to Jacob Halek to pull within one. But when JP Luedke's extra point kick was off the mark, it would end up being the deciding factor keeping the White Hawks perfect on the year.

"Section 5AAAA is arguably the best section in Minnesota football as it as produced the Class 4A State Champion for three years in a row. Playing close games like this one where we have to come back from a one or two score deficit really prepares us for those tough games we are going to have later on in the season. We were really proud of the resiliency that the boys showed last Friday night" Head Coach Nick David said.

Mound Westonka found themselves in a 14-point hole early on, after Halek returned an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter, followed by a Hakim Daniels touchdown reception in the second.

The White Hawks would dominate the rest of the quarter, scoring three touchdowns to go into the half with a 21-14 lead.

Senior running back Adam Nobs gave Mound Westonka the shot in the arm they needed, starting with a 1-yard score.

Sophomore quarterback Tyler Von Bank then took the scoring to the air, finding Calvin MacKell from eight yards out - one of four catches for him, picking up 70 yards and the touchdown.

Von Bank would hit Nobs for a one-score before the break, and kicker Daniel Neve's PAT would end up being the game winner.

When asked about the importance of special teams Coach David replied, "we always preach that each phase of football - offense, defense, and special teams is equally important. Literally every play, snap, and point scored is just as important as the other. We spend a lot of time on special teams as it is a goal of ours to win that phase week in and week out. Coach Chapman and Coach Runke do a great job preparing our kids and luckily we did a pretty good job executing on those units this past Friday night."

Von Bank went 11-18 passing for 105 yards, throwing 2 TDs and 2 INTs.

Nobs ran for 65 yards on 16 carries, and totaled 11 yards on three receptions and 2 total TDs.

The 3-0 White Hawks go on the road next week, heading to Bloomington Kennedy where they'll try to remain undefeated against the Eagles, Friday, 9/20 at 7 p.m.
